Welcome to the Wild West and the "Magnificent Severn"! The Severn Postgraduate School of Medicine website went live in August 2008 and we will be progressively updating and improving it. We have tried to make it as comprehensive and helpful as possible but to start off with you may find some sections are better developed than others. Many people have been asked to contribute to give us the benefit of their specialist knowledge and expertise and some sections need to be developed further.
Our training programmes in medicine are based in the 8 Trusts in the Severn Deanery’s territory (University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, North Bristol Trust, Royal United Hospital Bath, Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath, Great Western Hospital Swindon, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital, Musgrove Park Hospital Foundation Trust Taunton, Weston Super Mare and Yeovil hospitals.) The area offers many attractions including the high life of Bristol, the Georgian delights of Bath, Swindon’s Railway museum (Swindon also boasts the “magic” roundabout- reputedly the most dangerous in the country) and the beautiful countryside and friendly natives of Wiltshire, Somerset, and Gloucestershire. There are good road links to London, and also further south down the M5 for sailing and surfing in Devon and Cornwall. The efficiency of rail travel has declined a bit since Isambard Kingdom Brunel built the Great Western Railway from Bristol to London but todays railways will still get you to the capital on a good day (but allow lots of time if you are coming by train for an interview!).
Wherever you may be training we wish you every success with your career in medicine but remember- We’re the best from the West!
