Acute Medicine Rotation Severn Deanery 

This is a 4 year training programme in acute and general medicine. The rotation is run in the following hospitals in the Severn region:

1. Bristol Royal Infirmary    3 Posts 
2. North Bristol Hospital Trust    2 Posts 
3. Cheltenham General Hospital 1 Post 
4 Gloucester Hospital 2 Posts
5. Royal United Hospital Bath 3 Posts
6. Weston General Hospital 2 Posts
7. Great Western Hospital - Swindon 1 Post
8. Yeovil General Hospital 1 Post
9. Taunton and Somerset Hospital 2 Posts
 
Training in acute medicine covers the following areas:
  1. Experience in clinical and managerial running a Medical Admission Unit or equivalent.
  2. Experience in emergency medicine and ITU.
  3. Training in major medical areas. This includes cardiology, respiratory medicine, care of the elderly, endocrine and diabetes and gastroenterology.
  4. Optional training in echocardiogram and medical education.
  5. Encourage to take a leaning on an area of expertise in medicine or otherwise.

The duration of attachment will depend on the training need and on a mutual agreement with the Training Committee.

There are 5 structured study days currently run jointly with the trainees in the peninsular deanery. The venue is in Taunton. These include the regional college update which is held in the autumn every year.
