Dermatology

This is a 4 year training programme with entry at ST3 level

There are 4 NTN posts which rotate between

  • Britsol Royal Infirmary            3 years
  • Royal United Hospital, Bath    1 year

There are 6 consultant dermatologists in Bristol and 4 in Bath. Whilst in Bristol, trainees will also work at other Bristol hospital including Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals, and also Weston General Hospital. Comprehensive training in dermatology will be provided throughout the 4 year rotation. Sub- specialty training will be provided in paediatric dermatology, advanced surgery, contact allergy, hair and nail disease, photobiology and dermato-pathology. Trainees will gain on-call experience in a 1:4 on-call rota throughout the 4 years of training.

There is weekly journal club and skin cancer multi-disciplinary meetings. There are weekly registrar tutorials. Additional post-graduate teaching occurs weekly on Friday afternoons, which includes clinical cases, audit presentations, and histopathology meetings. Twice a year there is a joint Bristol and Cardiff registrar training day.

Attendance at the regional South West of England Dermatology Society meetings, and Royal Society of Medicine is encouraged. Study leave is granted for appropriate courses.

There are good research links with Bristol and Bath University, and there is dedicated research time for each trainee, with the opportunity to gain additional research time where appropriate. Candidates wishing to take time out of programme for a higher degree would be encouraged.

Trainees will be expected to participate in teaching of undergraduate students from Bristol University.
